Hello Girls!!!
Welcome to your Second Elimination Session
This week you need to submit a photo of yourself in your own 'Dreamland'. Some of you really nailed the theme but some of you failed to impress us judges.
Let's start our judging session now!!!
Janice: Okay, so you have the dream background down, but what are you offering us here? It more looks like a bad photoshop job that Alice in Wonderland. I think you're not engaged enough, you're just sitting there looking pretty. The whole "Alice in Wonderland" logo bothers me, as it takes away from the background. The background here is a dream. You are not.
Amanda: This looks like you were green-screened in. You look completely separate from the background, hence the disconnection Janice noted - it's pretty weak, given that you're just staring at us. You're not active at all. You're not doing anything unique. Your outfit is unique, but not in the best way - you could have gone for something more simple and everyday that would have made it seem like you were living a dream. This image is just a nightmare - it's nothing special at all, and I'm concerned for you this round :/
Morgan: I'm going to have to agree with the other judges, the setting is wonderful and perfect for this photoshoot but you look like your not ment to be there at all. I don't see any interaction between you and the setting and not even emotion or body language that would connect you with the setting. The only explanation I can think of is that maybe you are dreaming in a dream?
Zooey: I sense another echo coming on cause that's what I'm doing with the other judges' comments. I do feel a disconnect between you and the setting. The lines around you do suggest that this is a picture of Avril photoshopped in. The fact that we see Johnny Depp in the upper left-hand corner and he's so small in the picture, really does make me think this was something fan-made.
That said, you don't look terrible in this picture or anything. You're just there, though. The different card suits on your tights are nice. I guess that actually does help tie you to the background theme a bit because it makes me think of The Queen of Hearts.
Lana: I think it's a little bit messy. There were so many things in that photo. But I do like your face in this photo. I knew you tried your best but I'm not sure if this photo is going to help you a lot this week.
Lana: A little bit hoochie but I quite like it. I'm not sure what is your dream. Maybe you can explain more about it. The styling is bold and crazy. Very risky. I think you can do better than this. But it was okay for me
Morgan: I like this photo. The beach setting gives off a tranquil and dreamy feel. Your outfit and pose dont really fit the dreamy type feel but that works for you in this shoot because it contributes to making this dream believable, not all dreams make sense. What I love most about this photo is how well you stand out, you have a great curve in the back, you look beautiful and I love how you are interacting with your setting by digging your feet into the sand. It really makes you look connected to the environment around you. You do look a tad hoochie, and the expression on your face looks your disgusted by something, but thats the only negatives I have for this shot.
Amanda: I dislike the circles around your eyes... those sort of take away from this. It's also a bit too "Vegas Showgirl" for my liking. I love the setting and the concept to some extent, but... I really can't make a strong connection to it. It is a bit too hoochie, and your expression is just... lame for me. I'm not feeling it. I'm not feeling a sense of dreamy bewilderment. It's an okay photo, but I just can't connect to it, sorry :/
Janice: This isn't a dream. This is reality - It's Mardi Gras in Rio. You look really greasy here, and that's not a good thing. Not to mention you look like you have no foot and only one arm.
Zooey - Doesn't really scream "Dream" to me, but I'm willing to buy it. The outfit and the setting don't go together, so that's why I'm willing to buy it. You definitely could have done better with theme incorporation this round, though. At least this picture is a bit interesting, though. I'll take mediocre theme and interesting over mediocre theme and boring any day
Janice: You look 109 years old here. It looks horrendous, really. The puffy dress - that's fine. The idea - I get it. You - An old lady. Your body is all saggy and you face has so many wrinkles and imperfections. I'm not impressed.
Amanda: I can't see the dream. And yeah, your face is terrible. I don't see "forever young" here. I see "trying to be young and failing." This is a nightmare. The dress just doesn't seem... "dreamy" enough. This seems almost too "normal" with... a little gravity-defying. If you looked younger, it'd be better. But you look older than you are. Almost ugly, even, although I really do like your hair. And I do like the dress, but like I said - it just doesn't feel... thematically related. Guess me listening to Leona Lewis right now isn't going to bring out your X-Factor... since Janice didn't like it, it may bring an X instead
Morgan: This doesn't look dreamy to me, when I think of dreams I think of fantasy, make believe, defying reality. This to me looks like your playing dress ups or something, I'm getting no dreamy element from this. I love this dress, I think I would love any lady in this dress..maybe Janice could try it on later for me? But back to business, this doesn't work for me sorry Danni, and I cant even compliment the modelling because unfortunately I don't think you look the best in this. As the other judges said, you look very old and the light on you isn't helping matters. There are creases and lines showing all over your face and body where there shouldn't be. Certainly not as superb as you looked last round, now that was some serious modelling!
Lana: I'm not really excited with your styling. I'm not sure if this photo do you any justice girl. The setting didn't help either. I don't think this is going to help you much this week. A little bit disappointing for me since you did great last week.
Zooey: Those are some harsh lines. It looks like someone took this photo and ran it through the Sharpen filter a few too many times. I do like the way you've decided to sell this photo. I'm not sure I would have associated this with a dream picture if not for your description. So, the flowing pink dress along with your pose really lends itself well to how you sold the picture. It's just too bad you have such harsh lines in the picture, that age you horribly. Especially for a photo about "staying young forever".
Janice: I see you've taken the more dreamy appearance approach, rather than taking it to Dreamland. Or rather following your own ambitions. It's okay, we're not going to take points away from that. I'm not going to deny you look flawless here. If that bracelet were turned around the other way, you'd be accessorized really well. Who's idea was that? Overall, you look very ethereal, and fashionable, but the execution of the theme is, though unique and acceptable, not done well.
Amanda: Yeah, I agree with Janice - you look more "dreamy" than "dreaming" here. I love the styling and the concept is unique, but I don't see anything awkward. Although, given the samples that were posted, this definitely works - it's not my fault if others think otherwise. It's fashionable and you look way better than last round, so overall, it's good.
Morgan: You look really beautiful here, theres no denying that. You seem to have a peaceful look on your face and seem totally relaxed in your environment, it looks like your getting ready to have an afternoon slumber. So I can see the dream like state in you but I would have liked to have seen more of the setting and environment that your in so it could compliment this dream like photo. Even a photo that zoomed out a bit so we could see the horse fully, instead of what looks like to be a tree trunk with a blanket and a lot of hair on it.
Zooey: Last week, you put stronger emphasis on the theme than on modeling. This week, I'd say you did the exact opposite. While the theme is present, I wouldn't really say it's that strongly represented. You do look very beautiful in this picture, though. And while your pose may be a low-energy one, we can still get personality from you in this picture. I would actually say this seems a bit more like a photo of you daydreaming.
Lana: I love the styling. Very bold and intense which is good for this week. I love the light on your face. It's a little bit 'calm' so I want you to take more risk next week. But overall, I think it was such a lovely photo
Amanda: I really like this. It's a majestic photo, especially with the light and how EVERYTHING is ice. It's like you're dreaming of an ice world, and it's telling a sort of story - enchanting, but maybe depressing at the same time. The concept alone is gorgeous, and you are too - the styling is great, especially for this, and I really like your hair and the pose, but at the same time... you don't really stand out and "pop" as much as you could. That's really my only gripe, but your styling works with the story and what you're doing here. It's very good, and I do enjoy it
Lana: Epic!!! This is what I looking for this week. Stunning. I love the setting. Your styling is amazing too. Look at the shoes!!! My only issue is your neck. Don't hide it, girl. No matter what, you did great this week
Morgan: This is such a pleasant improvement from last week. I really like this photo, a beautiful, mystical, winter wonderland. And I really like your shoes!
You look confused but also comfortable in this dream of yours, which is often the emotions felt whilst being in a dream. The only negative thing I have about this photo, is that the setting and environment seems to impress me more than what you do. You look like more of a prop than a model in this shot, I want to see you standing out and for the setting to compliment you. Not for you to compliment the setting. However this is a big improvement of last week, and I think overall you have done a great job
Janice: Huge improvement on last week. The quality of this image is great, and your modelling is simple, but effective in this photo. You look almost intrigued by the world around you, but satisfied at the same time. I'm really loving that little hunch in your body too.
Zooey: Huge improvement over last week. I adore the setting. Had this been an outdoor photo, I would have been a bit iffy about the dream aspect, but since it's an outdoor winter wonderland that's located inside, it's fantastic theme incorporation. You look beautiful in it and I'm completely fine with the simplistic pose. It works well with the picture.
Janice: You look like a beautiful corpse, I'm sorry. But that is what you were going for, I guess I'm fine with it. Put for being dead, you look too alive. I'd love to see less focus to the camera. A vacant expression would work great here. I'm not going to lie, I love your wardrobe here, I love the setting, and the idea. I like the modelling to a certain degree. But I don't like entirely how it is executed.
Amanda: I love the fog. And I definitely get a "dream" vibe from this. The truck is, after all, stopped, and there's no blood or anything on it - I don't think it hit you, but it stopped because you were lying there, dreaming in a dream, Inception-style. It's this that makes it a separation of reality - it's something eerie and mysterious. I don't think this is bullshit at all - it works. I do find the styling unique - I mean, why would you be wearing that on a cold night if it weren't a dream? Overall, great work
Morgan: I like this photo of you, but I found myself enjoying your explanation more than the photo itself which concerns me because I want the photo to do the talking for me. I do however think this photo represents a dream, because usually dreams don't make sense. Laying in the middle of the road in lingerie, with a car pulled up next to you, fog all around makes me think of all the possible scenarios that could explain what has happened. You look good here, but nothing about you really stands out to me (apart from how sexy you are), but overall I think you have pulled off the theme, I would like to see more POW coming from you, that bit of extra modelling can add so much more strength and depth into a photo.
Zooey: I can get a good sense of "dream" from this picture. I like parts of it and there are other parts that I'm fine with, but I wish were better. The pose is fine, but I have to agree with Janice that I wish the eyes weren't looking at the camera like that. The fog helps the photo have a bit more of a dreamlike quality to it and just the blocking of the photo itself seems out-of-place enough to lend credibility to this being a photo of a dream.
I LOVE that the license plate on the car reads TOP MDL. I'm a sucker for little details like that.
Lana: LOVE the photo so much. I think there's a story behind the photo. Lot of stories actually!!! Love the styling. I think you connect well with the camera. You can do better with your body language and pose but overall, this is amazing!!
Amanda: Well this is bizarre. You're some sort of Frankenstein's Bride person holding a plastic leg and taking X-rays of it? I have no idea what to make of it - hence, obviously, this is definitely one of those dreams you wake up and remember this kind of image in the morning and ask, "What the hell was I dreaming about?" There's no question you've nailed the theme, but I'm not completely sold on the lighting - the shadow almost consumes you, and it's kind of unnerving and not in the best way. The styling is great, really - I really like your dress and your face, and this whole thing is just... unique. In the end, I do like this, but there's just something missing that prevents it from being great - maybe it's energy, maybe it's something more. Your expression does go with the context, so it's hard for me to put my finger on it.... but even then, I think you'll do rather well
Janice: It's the lighting that's the issue here, for sure. Your face is hiding in the shadows rather than catching the light. We need to see the planes of your face light up, otherwise it looks flat.
Lana: It's so weird and really freak me out which is good for me since you supposed to be in a Dreamland here. But I agree you need to work on your face more. Work on the angle of your face. Overall it's a good photo for me
Morgan: Well, well, well whats going on here? This is very interesting. Now this is a dream, and its a dream because it so absurd that it makes no sense. You have pulled off the theme really well (maybe you could write an explanation telling us the story behind this photo because I would love to know), and you yourself look great in this. I love your dress, your hair, pose.. this looks so high fashion to me. You look very strong in this, and a way in which you could have looked stronger would be to bring your face more into the light so it can stand out more. But overall, I am impressed with this.
Zooey: Ok, I don't know what the hell is going on in this photo. I don't know why you'd be in an evening gown at a hospital, holding an artificial leg. You must be there in a dream. So, good theme incorporation this week. Your face is the only thing holding this picture back. The poor lighting does not flatter you.
Lana: I'm not sure about this Katie, Besides the dress, it's really hard to imagine that you are in a dream. But you do look beautiful. Love your pose. Very confident.
Morgan: I agree with Lana, I don't see anything dream like in this but I do love your modelling. You look flawless, there are curves in your body where there is ment to be, your face is strong and you pull off this outfit very well. This shot looks suited for a couture photoshoot rather than a dreamy photoshoot.
Amanda: I really love this photo. It's sexy without being trashy, and it has a hat! You know me and hats xD
But what I don't like is that there is no setting whatsoever. Do you dream in black and white, where you live in a studio with a white background? I don't believe the majority of people do. You look dreamy, but that =/= a dream. We want you to weave together a mysterious story, something that doesn't make much sense, and to try and make sense of it. I get a "model" vibe from this, but I don't see any story. It's a great photo - it just doesn't fit with the theme. However, your photo is definitely good enough to get you through
Janice: A grade modelling, F grade theme execution. Please tell me exactly what about this is dreamy? A lot of you have trouble with the theme. Dream =/= Your fantasy. Dreams are something surreal and uncontrolled. This is the opposite.
Zooey: I love the pose and I love the way you look in the photo, but I'm not convinced that this fits the theme as well as it could. I'm fine the studio backgrounds in general as long as they're used sparingly. However, for a photo about a dream, I think we needed a good background to help categorize it.
Amanda: So you're dreaming you're a fairytale nun of sorts? That's rather interesting, given your conservative garb and the church-like background that looks rather... well, foggy. I can definitely see this as a "dream," but it isn't a memorable one. There's nothing that makes it stand out from a dream where you have no idea what the hell you're doing. It's a little too safe, in my opinion - not enough to endanger you, but enough to make me want something more next round. You are beautiful but this is merely okay - it just lacks the "WOW" factor that it could have. I'd really like to see you push the envelope next time!
Lana: I'm not sure about your energy this week. I don't think it's enough. The setting was okay. I still can see this photo as a dream. But Amanda's right. This photo wasn't memorable enough
Janice: I actually really like the medieval feel of the photo, but when I went to sleep last night, I could remember every photo - good and bad - that had been submitted so far, but not yours. Your photo doesn't have energy, and your body looks like a man's body, not to mention your hands. I think you looked at this photoshoot and just thought "Oh, dreams. That just means fantasy" rather than exploring the other possibilities of what a dream could be.
Morgan: There's no question in my mind, you look gorgeous here. Very graceful, sophisticated and dreamy. Your presence really stands out from the photo which I love, my eyes are instantly drawn to you first. But then after a while the photo begins to look a little dull to me, other than you looking remarkable there's nothing else about this photo that completes it. Seeing you interact with your surrounding, and bringing the whole photo to life would improve this so much for me.
Zooey: I don't think you were too edgy last round. I would have love last round's photo to have gone even further. Anyway, this round, I'd say I can see this working well for a dream, but like last time, I think you could have gone further with the theme. I'm also not a big fan of the quality of the photo, either. It looks like it was taken with a camera that was made in the 60s.
Amanda: You're definitely in concert, as that microphone is a giveaway. Perhaps singing "Fantasy" from Daydream? Regardless of that, the lighting is fantastic, and the dress is excellent. It definitely has a dream-like effect, but I can't look past that this is a concert photo. It's not from a photoshoot. And your face.... yeah, no. It's still better than last week, but it isn't wonderful by any means. If only this were a photoshoot... and if your face looked... younger... and less purple... then I could see myself loving it. This is merely okay. Nothing more, nothing less.
Janice: I'm not sure what was going through your head in your sleep-deprived state of mind. Even without that microphone, it would still be apparent it wasn't from a photoshoot, but from a concert. I will give the fact you look serene. I actually like the face, but this photo doesn't capture what a dream is. Wearing a purple dress on a swing isn't enough. I'd really like to see narrative or surrealism in a shoot like this.
Lana: I like the setting. I still can see this photo as a dream. Not really a fan of your styling. You look uncomfortable here. I love the concept but I still think you can do better than this.
Morgan: This looks too staged for me, too unnatural and its obvious as the other judges have noted that this is a shot from a concert. I do however love your dress, and overall you look very beautiful here. You look very calm. confident and elegant being up in the air. I dont have much else to say about this other than, this photo hasnt pulled off the theme for this photoshoot at all
Zooey: This may be a shot from a concert rather than an actual shoot, but at least it has a photoshoot quality. That said, I don't really feel the theme in the picture. You look fine in it, but there's not really anything that stands out in this picture.
Lana: Not a fan of your facial expression. You look so mean. The princess supposed to be sweet and approachable. But I like your styling. Very regal and elegant.
Morgan: *rubs hands together* Finally! A naughty princess trapped in a box, I know that's what I dream about!
Back to business...
Overall I think the styling, and how well you pulled off this princess appearance. All of the little accessories, the outfit and your modelling are very royal like. Your body looks great in this, but your face lacks that strength. It has an annoyed type of intensity rather than a fierce type of intensity. What could have made this photo so much better in my opinion would be to have a background of perhaps a palace or a a beautiful landscape shot of your kingdom rather a silver box type setting all around you.
Amanda: You look more like a princess wannabe than an actual princess, and that's mostly due to your expression. You're trying to live a dream here - you're not in dreamland - and that hurts quite a bit. I love the styling, although I'm not feeling the tiara... it seems a bit... cheap, as opposed to regal. I do like the setting somewhat, but it doesn't exactly fit with the dream - it's like you're trying to act like the princess in your own bedroom. I'm with Morgan - give us a castle! Give us royalty! Overall, this is merely a starting point - it's good, but it isn't great.
Janice: As Amanda said, you are trying to live a dream here, this is not dreamland as the shoot asked for. This entire photo is brought down by the setting, as Morgan noted. If this had a gorgeous castle or bedroom backdrop, maybe I'd be convinced.
Zooey: I'm going to have to echo what the other judges have said. This isn't really a dream since it's just you playing dress up. A different background definitely could have helped this picture. The attitude you give off in the picture makes you look more like "Daddy's Princess" than an actual princess. You still look beautiful and I'm fine with your pose. I just wish the theme for better represented.
Lana: I'm not sure about the angle of your face but I can see the photo as a dream. You look very lost and the butterflies effect really make it work for this photo.
Morgan: This shoot certainly has a dreamy vibe to it, your flowing dress, your intrigued yet confused expression, big blurry butterflies whizzing all around you, you walking towards a corner in a room... But yet this photo isnt memorable to me. The thing that stands out to me the most in this is your dress, and I like how you are still modelling even with your back to the camera: that curve in your back and you overall have a grace or an elegance about you.
Amanda: This doesn't do much for me. It has a dreamlike appearance somewhat, but... there's absolutely nothing memorable about it. Nothing pops out at me. I like your dress, but it's wearing you - you're not wearing it. Your facial expression is appropriate for a dream, but it lacks that energy. I don't hate this photo, don't get me wrong - it just doesn't deliver what it could. It's merely... average. But that may be enough to save you.
Janice: You love giving us profiles, don't you Rose? You have executed the dreamland theme much better than a majority of the girls have here, and this is a simplistic way of doing it. Butterflies inside a room in a house. Your facial expression matches that too, even if it's your profile - AGAIN. As Morgan noted, you have some top notch modelling here, especially that arch in your back.
Zooey: I have to agree with Janice that you executed the theme better than the majority of the other girls and you did do it in the simple way. That's a good angle for you, too. We get to see part of your back, but also a good amount of your face. You like profiles, but remember that you need to give us variety or in later rounds judges will probably slam you for being too repetitive. However, this is just the second round, so it's not repetitive, yet. Just wanted to throw that out there before it potentially became an issue since you said that you love profile shots.
Janice: Two weeks in a row, you have impressed me. Those girls better watch out for you. I don't know, you might be the first black winner. This picture is stunning. You look flawless, and the scene looks right out from a dream. Your expression looks confused and intrigued, just like in a dream. And you look tall! Look at that long neck! Look at that amazing dress. And it just connects together nicely! I'm impressed.
Amanda: You look amazing, and the sunlight is brilliant here - the dress is awesome too... everything just fits together well. I'm not totally sold on what it is you're dreaming, however - I really wish this photo were telling more of a story. That's really the only thing it's lacking for me. I like it. Once again, great work
Morgan: Wow! Just wow. This is amazing, you have impressed me once again. You look absolutely beautiful and this is a perfect dream like photo, you look completely connected to the dream you are in and I love your dress! (oh god, all this modelling has started to make me sound like a woman! Oh well, at least I will be of use to all those men in the prisons). I love everything about this and you are still modelling in this shot which is just icing on the cake.
Zooey: What an ethereal picture. I love it. The fact that you're wearing suck an elegant gown in the middle of the forest with the sun peaking through the trees... it's just so reminiscent of a dream to me. The look on your face tells me that this isn't where you expected to be. It's like you went to sleep and woke up in a foreign land and are trying to figure out where you are. I get a strong sense of theme in this picture and it's beautiful on top of it. Great job again this week.
Lana: Wow!!! That was the only word I can think of right now after saw this photo. Girlll.. Everything works perfectly together. I thought last week was great but this week was even better. Your neck is delicious!!! Good job girl!!!
Welcome to your Second Elimination Session
