Let's start our judging session for this week.
Janice: I actually had to search this photo, only to discover the badly photoshopped wig was not your doing, but the photographer's. Yikes. I don't like it. Not one bit. The hair, though I see the connection to the anime inspired fashion is just so over exposed. It really ruins the photograph.
Lana: I'm not sure about this photo too Dianna. I thought the wig was photoshopped too at first. I wish you would go more 'Japan' in your styling. You can do a lot with the dress. I don't think this is one of your best photo Dianna
Amanda: I hate that wig. A lot. It's too bright and shiny and definitely looks photoshopped, and to find out that the photographer did it pretty much destroys his credibility. It also makes you look more like a cartoon, which may have been the intent given the ridiculous hair colors many anime characters have. This seems somewhat Japanese to me, but... it isn't doing anything for me. It isn't lively enough, and it's just kind of dull for me even with that eyesore on your head. Sorry, but this isn't that great :/
Zooey: It's a shame that this is another time that the second photo can't be accepted due to a missed deadline. I'm not a fan of that first photo. The wig is definitely poorly photoshopped on and it's a real detraction from the rest of the picture. I do get a bit of a japanese feel from this picture, so that's a plus. I'm fine with the pose and the dress. We just have to see if the terrible wig drags your picture too far down or not.
Morgan: The wig blinds me! arghh. I can see what angle you were trying to come at here with the Japanese vibe. I think you look young, colorful and alternative here but I don't think that is enough to connect you to your country. I like the way you are modeling and the twisting of your body. I appreciate the time you put into your explanation, I admire a bit of hard work in my models.
Janice: Fashion theme ughahsklkldhs *salivates uncontrollably*. Why yes, wealthy British polo player, I definitely see the connection to British. There were so many ways you could have gone with British fashion - From punk to Bollywood - but I'm glad you chose something that actually suits your look. There's a lot of tension in this photo, and it's the good kind of tension. It brings a new angle to this photo, from the obvious wealthy so-and-so, it adds a dominatrix and power vibe to the photo, and that works in this photo.
Lana: I really like this. If you really running out of photo and still look great in the photo, that doesn't bother me at all. I think you look very confident. The pose is great, the angle of the photo is still great (even though you were at the side of the photo). Nice setting. My only criticism maybe your energy. I think you can give us more energy especially in your face.
Amanda: I like this, but I don't love it. This sort of seems like a lower-end kind of modeling - basically, something you'd see in a British sports magazine about a rookie female polo player on the rise. That doesn't change that this is a beautifully executed photo, albeit the low quality, and that your face is fierce. I do like it - the styling fits your, uh, "job," but at the same time this seems more of that kind of "job" than a fashion statement from another country. I love the boots, and based on the styling, I'd definitely lean towards you picking Britain. Overall, this isn't your best work per se, but you've been a powerhouse here. It's hard to top some of your best. This won't do it, but this surely will be good to get you through next round.
Morgan: Oh no January has the whip out! I have been a very naughty boy. I think this photo connects well to your country. You look very posh, neat, classic and just plain clean here. I think your modeling stance is very strong and you look very in control of yourself. A bit emotionless, but maybe thats a British thing. Your horse riding outfit even brings with it a hint of high fashion, well for me anyway. Good job!
Zooey: Ok, I didn't feel like reading the description this time, but thankfully, with this photo, I didn't need to. I saw the British style in the photo already and I love it. The styling is fantastic and I love the androgyny of the photo. You have a nice, powerful stance that I adore, too.
Janice: For a fashion photograph, you don't show a lot of fashion. Especially since your photo is supposed to be about the bikini, and you're hiding all of it with your body and the positioning. As photograph, yes I won't deny you're beautiful. However, you're missing the point of the photoshoot completely, we want to SEE the fashion, not have it covered up.
Lana: Wow Katie, you look beautiful. Really beautiful but Janice was right, we can't see your bikini. It's going to be tough for you this week girl, since we want to see fashion in your photo. If bikini is the main element in your photo then you should show us that bikini.
Amanda: If you're going to try to sell your French designer bikini, then let us see more of it. You look amazing despite that, but if I had to guess a country... I'd guess the South Pacific (technically a region, but you get my point). I don't follow your selling at all, but even with that, you look amazing. If someone else bombs hard enough, that alone may salvage your operation.
Katie: I would like to change my country fashion to Brazil. I am modeling H Stern high fashion Jewelry direct from Brazil!!
Amanda: I love your skin here. I love how close up it is, yet how much we can see - it's brilliant. The designer jewelry is awesome, and I WANT IT. I definitely get a Latin-American vibe from that and H. Stern -is- a Brazilian company. Your face is sort of weaker than your prior photo, but it's not horrible. This is definitely an improvement - good work!
Janice: I would've loved to see some designer clothes in this shoot, because Brazil has some brilliant designs. Jewellery seems like a bit of a safe option for this photo. You are selling your jewellery well, don't get me wrong. Everywhere but your face is good. Your face looks completely dead. There's no life in there, and your mouth is incredibly stiff.
Morgan: This is an improvement from before, we can actually see some fashion elements here which is what we were looking for. I can clearly see Brazil thorough this. Your skin tone is gorgeous, your jewelry looks great on you and stands out. Sadly there is that deadness in your eyes and your face but you have nailed the theme.
Lana: Another beautiful photo from you, but this time, the 'International' styles were presented well compared to your first photo. Amanda's right. Your skin here is flawless. I love the jewelry. I got the Brazilian vibes from it. You made a right choice to use your second photo.
Zooey: The second photo is definitely much better than the first. Nothing really terrible about the first, but it just really wasn't that special. I love the fact that your skin is fairly tan in your second photo and the jewelry and styling is nice. I just wish your face had more emotion. I think it's mainly the eyes. They seem off... distracted. It's really the only off-putting part of the photo for me, and even then, it's not that big of a deal.
Janice: You look like a cheap French slut. Your make up is so harsh, it's like you had your make up gun set to whore. Your stripes are almost surreal, that's factor that I actually like, it gives it another dimension to an otherwise boring photograph.
Lana: Janice, you're officially the meanest judge in the series ever. More than Ryan (HawaianLeanne), one of the original judges from Cycle 1-3. Back to Liv's photo, I like the beret. I think it's very French for me. I got that. As for you makeup, I think it's because of the eyelashes. Too much but I like those stripes shirt. Cute on you!!! Not your strongest tough.
Amanda: I like it somewhat and hate it somewhat. The first thing I am drawn to is your belly button. That's... never a good sign. Your expression is weak, but you know me and hats. I like them, and this one is well-worn. I like the shirt too, but again, it's a bit short, and your belly sticks out too much. I can definitely see a French mime here, and that will help your case somewhat. I just wish you weren't in a blank white setting, although you may have trapped yourself in your own box. I really don't know what Janice is seeing here... does she even know what a mime is? I think Janice is just trying to be negative for no apparent reason and has strained her credibility. This photo is actually decent. It isn't terrible. Not your best, but not the worst it could be.
I'm harsh because I care.
The actual fashion industry says a lot worse than me.
Janice: Morgan: Ahhh Janice! Fierce in person and in bed!
Well dont you look like a little french lass here Liv. I think you certainly match your chosen country. I like how you look very young and vibrant here. You have a nice full lips, fresh face and the angle of your posing makes you look very lean and interesting. A more interesting background could have contributed more to the setting and theme, making this photo look even better, but overall good job this week Liv.
Zooey: I like how you took a classic French look and added some sex appeal to it. I didn't need to see anything other than your picture to know what country you chose, so in my eyes, you did a great job with theme incorporation. I like your pose with the outfit, and I guess the studio background is my only real negative. I would have preferred a more theme-oriented setting than this. Otherwise, I'm left with a positive impression of your photo.
Lana: Arghh.. I think the style here is quite general to be called as 'American Style". I like the blue and red. I wish there are something more dominant in this photo to represent America. I'm not sure if this will help you a lot, Mariah!!!
Amanda: Okay, I'm going to be a little nicer looking at this again. I apologize if my first critique was a bit too mean. Honestly, the thematic relation hasn't changed - what you have here is NO relation to the theme. As an American singer, you can't call "American" an "international fashion." The writing on the bottom is a bad detail and the small size doesn't do any favors. There is nothing in this to represent any country - it's merely a generic shot. I do like your shoes on further inspection, but I don't like how your hair and everything conceals your face. This is just forgettable. You have commercial energy but it's hidden by everything around you, and since there's zero relation to the theme... that's not going to help you.
Janice: Now, there was nothing in the instructions that said it couldn't be US fashion. The instructions were simply to choose a country, and submit a photo based off its fashion. Again, the was nothing to say it couldn't be your own country's fashion. It perhaps looks like a generic style to Amanda because she sees this every day.
I can see you're going for the everyday girl-next-door American look, and in that way, it does fit the theme - I can definitely see it. You look very commercial and friendly, and frankly, it's what some American fashion is all about. You do look like you have no neck, but strangely, I think it works for the overall atmosphere of the photo. Strangely, I do like it.
Morgan: I can definitely see where you were coming from, and how you were trying to work with the photos that you had. But unfortunately I think this falls short from what the other models have been posting, its missing that cultural vibe. I think you look really cute here, your legs look amazing and you look like your having fun which is always something I like to see. I cant see much of your face due to your hair and it looks like your shrinking your head into your body. There is nothing distinct that really screams out America to me, but you have the cute girl next door look going on.
Zooey: I have to agree with Amanda. You can't take an American singer and say that her "International Style" is American. So, I'm really disappointed with theme execution this week. To touch on what Janice said, maybe this picture seems generic to me since I'm American, so I guess that means I see this every day. Although, if I saw ugly green shorts like that, I think I'd remember. I'm sorry, but this photo doesn't really stand out as being strong or memorable for me.
Janice: There's something here that screams "Shilpa Shetty", and it's probably the fact you look like her.
Most of Indian fashion is based on tradition. We know they like warm, earthy colors. India's fashion industry is interesting, it still is very tradition based. This is shining dress, it's fine from a Western point of view, but you're having a bit of a boob slip here, and that is far too risqué for India. The whole dress just doesn't look what what comes out of India, as a whole. I'm not talking about sarees, I know not all Indian fashion is sarees (though they do make some beautiful sarees I must say), but even the more western designs have traditional Indian influences.
Lana: You look amazing. The body language is really good. But Janice was right. Your shining dress here is leaning towards to Western more than Bollywood. I can see the Bollywood in your movement, pose and styling but as for the dress, not so much.
Amanda: When I saw this photo, the first thing I remembered was Shilpa's photo, which Janice so kindly posted already. That shiny, perhaps silk dress could definitely work for India... but it has been Americanized. Your face is FIERCE, your hair is wonderful, and the styling works - the issue is that it doesn't relate to the theme. However, you look beautiful enough and have been on enough of a roll lately that I couldn't rank you last. Make of that what you will.
Zooey: I LOVE that dress and I LOVE your pose. So very fierce. You give us so much in this photo even with such a plain background. The plain background actually works in your favor this time. Any other background and it'd be too much going on. You nailed every aspect of the modeling portion of the shoot, so the question in my mind becomes "Did she hit the theme aspects, too?" For the most part, you did. I can see India in the picture. It's pretty good theme incorporation, but I did need to look at the description and then I said "Oh, yeah... now I see it." In the end, thinking back over your portfolio through the entire competition thus far, I think this may actually be my favorite picture from you.
Morgan: Sexy lady! You are working that dress girl, and it looks amazing on you. I can really see India in this, your skin tone, pose, dress and the rich earthy colors complete it all for me. I can see where the judges are coming from in which it looks a little american and modern. But overall I love this. Your strong pose, beautiful tension and intensity in your face!
Janice: Your body is amazing. You look so long and tall. If it were for your face, you'd look like a top model. Some people can pull of that angle of the face, but you don't. Your fashion, to me, it does scream British. I do love this photo regardless of your face.
Lana: I think Polka-Dot is too big for Britain's alone. Yes, Stella McCartney does come out with a Polka Dot line before, but I think Polka Dot is more to Europe than Britain. Not a fan of your dress. A little bit messy. I like the 'Cruella' concept. But I just don't think this is one of your best photo, Zoe!!!
Amanda: I have never associated polka dots with a single country, partially because I am aware of their use in Italian, French, and British settings, so this does not pertain to any one country. I don't like the angle of your face, and the setting is just too white - the dogs are fine, but they almost blend in. I can see Cruella here, but you have the spots, as opposed to the dogs. The styling is good, don't get me wrong, but there's nothing that makes this memorable for me. You look great, but don't own it. And since I thought "Italian" with polka-dots first... that may be an issue. Overall, this is just okay.
Zooey: I do see British influence in this picture. I just get a vibe from it that it has that style. The theme incorporation definitely could have been stronger, but it's still nice. From a modeling standpoint, I'd say it's mostly positive. I like your stance, styling, and dress. I'm a little put off by those shoes, but they're tolerable. The dogs are also a nice touch without being distracting.
Morgan: I love the Cruella concept! That with the polka dots does make this photo relate more to Britain. I love how you are lengthening your body, your legs look like they go on for miles! You have a great modeling stance, but your face is a bit off putting you do look a little 'stuck up' here which doesn't look good on a model. I love the setting, it brings so much more to the photo and makes it more memorable.

Will Dianna & Mariah step forward please
Dianna, this week, we felt you can explore more with Japan. I think there were a lot of references for Japan because their style are so popular nowadays. For you to come up with the Red Wig only is too boring for Japan fashion style
Mariah, you chose American Style. Some judges have problems with that. But not me. My problem is your photo is lack of something dominant about American Style. You need to emphasis more about that in your photo.
Who'll stays?
Very Close
Mariah!!! Your 2 points from the Challenge just save your from the elimination. Without that, it would be you this week to go home. Congrats!!!
Dianna!!! You're late for your second photo but I'm not so sure if it will help you much but I do think your Second photo is slightly better than your first photo. I'm sorry girl. Really love your energy this cycle. I think you're awesome. Hopefully we get to see you again in the future. *Hugs Dianna.
Ranking
1. January - 34 pts 2. Rachel - 26 + 2 = 28 pts 3. Katie - 23 pts 4. Zoe - 22 pts 5. Liv - 20 pts 6. Mariah - 7 + 2 = 9 pts 7. Dianna - 8 pts
